Tongue Posture/Tongue Thrust
TONGUE THRUST
The act of pushing tongue against or between teeth when swallowing
That constant pressure of tongue against teeth will not allow teeth to bite together= OPEN BITE
This improper alignment leads to difficulties chewing and biting and will result in lower tongue posture causing many more issues
CAUSES of tongue thrust
-
enlarged tonsils
-
thumb/finger sucking
-
mouth breathing
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy can eliminate the causes of swallowing abnormalities and improper rest posture of the tongue

PROPER TONGUE POSTURE
Wherever you tongue is at rest is always producing light, constant pressure. When our tongue position at rest is incorrect it can affect our growth of teeth, face and jaw.
Your tongue should be resting on top of your mouth flat against the palate, not resting on the teeth directly or at the floor of the mouth.
This will help with support for your upper jaw which maintains proper growth for your whole face, jaw and airway
